Wardle History
Watergrove
Watergrove is now is now a reservoir but was once a community, and the hills around it housed many smaller Hamlets, some, much older than Watergrove itself. During the droughts, that we have had,it has been easy to see the setts that made up the road through the village and also some remains of the walls. The reservoir is also used for recreation by the Sailboard Club and provides some most attractive walks and views in and around the area.
In 1991, Wardle Society, as one of its many efforts to promote conservation and environmental issues, in conjunction with Mr. Tom Seed, the then Warden of  Watergrove, arranged the planting of a commemorative wood, where, upon payment of a £1.00 donation, a tree would be planted in a name of their choice. The official opening of the wood took place on 2nd December 1991 when the late Mr. Geoffrey Dickens M.P. planted the first tree.
