I don't know much about England except that my great great grandmother came from North Manchester. Her name was Jane Jackson (born 1856) and she married William Monaghan (born 1856 or 1857) married in approximately 1875. They had 6 Children that I have found, James who died somewhere in England, then 4 girls Mary, Elizabeth, Margaret, Mabel ( all born in England) then they came to the USA in 1889 to 1890 and had another girl Beatrice in New York. Anyone with any information please help.
my mom said one of my great aunt's use to talk about a place called wardle so I am trying all avenue's at this point because supposedly we still have family by those names and "Winnin" and "Tomlin" that still live in England somewhere's. All the older people that knew anything are all past away and we only have old stories to go on. thanks danette |

Dear Julie I visited Wardle and Watergrove Reservoir for the first time today and not only did our group enjoy the walk, but were fascinated with the history. We stopped and looked at various ruins and took photos of the cellar at one ruined farm. I have several questions which I hope you can answer: 1. When was Hades farm built? 2. What was the purpose of the sunken roads? We intend returning here in the summer and hope it is a dry day like today! Some of our group have been when it was wet and said it was really boggy!! Many thanks Bill Jones

Hello again. As you see from your E-mail I have been in contact with June Slocomb. I went to Hollymount Convent in Bury when the Cottage Homes closed and wonder if any of the girls from there are still around? I would love to hear from them, especially the Horridge sisters and Ken their brother, who kept in touch with me for a while. Frances Axon (Nee Forrester)

My name is Alan Marshall late of 8 Clough street Wardle from 1943 to 1964. I left Wardle after getting married while in the army In 1963, I would like to hear from anyone who remembers me mainly Warren & Gwen Hope who used to live opposite the Post Office on Ramsden Road. I had many a happier time playing round the Cottage Homes and up Birch Hill going over Brown Wardle to Whitworth, I used to play cricket for Wardle when we had the field near the ressie, did all my early boozing in the Globe at the top of Wardle. I Used to help Charlie Cryer Slaughtering next door to our house in Clough St. I hope somebody remembers me. I was not a bad lad. Alan Marshall |
